Beer is Life.

Beer was nothing special in my life, that is, until I moved to Germany. Before that, I always made it a point to try a new beer almost every time I had one. Sam Adams was also a favorite. Germany…Germany was a special place. When I came back to the states, I had a completely different outlook on beer. Craft beer was exploding here in the U.S. and my new-found passion for beer was unleashed. Quality beer is my life now.
I had a “Blue Moon” shortly after returning—it had been a commonly favored beer choice before I left the States Something was different this time. Something different about the taste was evident. I still drank it a few more times, but it wasn’t the same for me. It wasn’t until I had a “Shock Top” that it was clear to me. It’s tasted pretty good, but something about the taste didn’t seem quite there. I wanted to know who brewed this beer. It was all clean then—AB brewed it. It was engineered to taste a certain way without using quality ingredients to give it that taste. Then I learned “Blue Moon” was Coors’ attempt to engineer a “craft” beer without craft ingredients. Living in Germany and getting to drink LOTS of different beers only made to strict standards (Reinheitsgebot), it made it practically impossible to drink cheaply made American beer. You couldn’t give me a AB-InBev or MillerCoors product. Sure, I’ll try something, but I will not pay for anything they produce—too many great and well produced beers out there for that. I also am active in homebrewing to gain a better respect for beer and the process. I mostly try to brew the things that are hard to find in the U.S. and are pretty expensive. Learning is my life… Science provides the answers…
