Interesting example of the baltic porter style from Victory. Strong, sweet and smooth, this beer pours midnight brown with ruby highlights. Apparently, its a collaboration between Heavyweight Brewing Company’s Tom Baker, and Victory Brewing’s Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski.

From Victory’s description:

Truly a worldly beer. Baltic Thunder represents the Baltic Porter style admirably. Exhibiting the enticing, toffee roast of the British porter that originated the style in the 18th century, and the soothing, subtle fruit nuance of contemporary brews that flourish from Helsinki to Vilnius today, this dark lager honors the Baltic god of thunder. Created by an inspired collaboration of brewers and tempered with a touch of turmoil, Baltic Thunder rolls on to bring you enchanting light as the darkness fades.

Pours with a slowly receding full creamy head and lacing. Not alot of nose, some coffee and malt. Taste of a good Porter, alcohol flavors well entrenched in this smooth brew. [22oz.bottle] Another Victory!

I got this one on the recommendation of one of my 97 Bottles friends, and wasn’t disappointed. Chalk up another great beer from Victory Brewing!

Mine didn’t have much of a head, but I could feel the light carbonation when it hit my mouth. Very balanced taste with a lot of character - the warming alcohol kick at the end is the exclamation point on a great beer.

    Characteristics: balanced character coffee smooth
