I was never much of a fan of porters as I tend to gravitate to hoppier ales, but since I made my first porter, I can appreciate them much more. The Bell’s porter is nice and roasty, with a soft and cakey mouthfeel. A beautiful cloudy head lasts throughout, and is especially delicious when served just below room temperature.
- Characteristics: brown chocolaty hearty roasty soft

I’m generally not a huge fan of porters as many of them come off just tasting like wilted lettuce, but this one manages to capture the vegetable flavors of malts, without the impression one is drinking a salad.
Pours well, with a nice head that lingers. Strong lacing.
Aroma has hints of grass and copper. Mouthfeel is smooth and soft with a nice tingle. Aftertaste is “meaty” and yet tart.
Definitely improves in complexity as it warms.
- Characteristics: malty meaty smooth
