Another good offering from Clipper City, but not on a par with their Loose Cannon IPA. Seemed a little thin compared to other Imperial Stouts I’ve tried without as much kick. Still, if you can find it, give it a try.

pours deep black with a tan one inch head.

aroma is coffee and sweet malts

the first few sips are really sweet. I wouldn’t consider this and imperial stout. After the first few sips the bitterness that I’m accustoms to shows up. Very odd. bitterness builds throughout the rest of the glass, but never becomes too much.

It’s very drinkable and very balanced. The alcohol is very hidden.

    Mouthfeel is creamy.

Wonderful color. Flavor definitely opens as it warms; much better closer to room temperature than fridge-cold. Taste is robust with coffee, caramel and the “smell” of pistachios. At times on the edge of being a little sweet for me, but enjoyable.

Not too challenging, but reminds one that there’s more happening in the palate than with other brews.

A really drinkable stout, but that’s not a good thing. This is billed as an imperial stout, and it goes down as easy as a Guinness.

Coffee, bitter chocolate, dark roasted malts and caramel dominate the flavor, with hints of anise/licorice and alcohol as the beer warms. All the flavors are mild, which makes for a good, though unremarkable drink.

It’s an OK Stout but… Imperial?… Sorry, I don’t think so. Brooklyn, Stone, North Coast, No Comparison.
