LOVE this unique beer. The sweet smell hits you right away. A mix of citrus, vanilla, caramel and floral flavors go perfectly with the strong hoppyness. Since it’s a mix of an IPA and English strong ale, the hoppy bitterness is more mellow than an IPA. Very thick, cloudy and warms your throat right away!

It’s the 90 minute aged on wood. 90 minute is incredible. Burton Baton is super incredible. Easily one of the best Dogfish Head offerings.

    Characteristics: balanced drinkable hoppy woody

I concur, a top notch Imperial India Pale Ale from Dogfish!! Pours Ruby light Brown with a thick dropping head and fine lacing. More aromas of fruit, [with that oaken presence], and malty vanilla than hops; but that’s OK because the flavor is fantastic.

    Characteristics: Balance complexity litebitterness silkysmooth

Had a glass of this at Pizzeria Paradiso in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Wow, this was an amazing beer that struck a chord in every aspect of beer drinking. This is obviously not BeerAdvocate, but I’m going to run down the traditional BA categories.

Look: Poured a beautiful copper color with a very thick off-white head and fine lacing.

Smell: The smell features the traditional DFH piney hop smell with vanilla and citrus notes. Incredibly appealing.

Taste: You know that scene in the film Ratatouille where the protagonist discusses how multiple tastes can combine together in a way that makes them much more than the sum of the parts? That describes this beer perfectly. It’s a delicious mix of floral and bitter hops with oaky, malty, vanilla-y, and light citrus flavors.

Mouthfeel: Almost mirrors the 90 minute IPA. Medium body and carbonation, a bit creamier due to the eminent head.

Another Dogfish Head winner. Do yourself a favor and give this a shot.

Characteristics: citrus creamy hoppy malty oaky piney vanilla

This ranks top of my list a combination of all my favorites an oak-aged imperial IPA. A strong IPA citrus with the wood and vanilla mmmmm….but hard to find!

An improved version of the 90 minute. Tastes like the 90 minute, with cherry and oak notes. Tastes highly alcoholic, which I appreciate.

    Comment:

The improvement over the 90-minute IPA is impressive since that’s already such a good beer. The nose has more hops in it, but the taste is noticeably less hoppy and a bit mellower. Also, the aging in wood gives is a fuller-bodied earthy undertone that makes it unlike any other IPA I’ve had.

Characteristics: amber earthy hoppy oak wood
