Old Chub

Brewery: Oskar Blues Brewery · Longmont, CO
Variety: Ale · Scottish Ale
Alcohol: ABV 8.00% / ABW 6.40%
Preferred vessel: Pint glass
Color: Nut Brown (English Brown Ale) (20 SRM)
Added by Jeremy Boles

Old Chub is a Scottish style ale brewed with copious amounts of crystal and chocolate malts, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malts. While Dale’s Pale Ale (“the best-tasting canned beer I’ve ever had,” according to many brewers and beer experts) is a showcase of both hops and pale malts, Old Chub is a celebration of malts. The cola-colored beer features a dense, tawny head, a creamy mouthful and flavors of caramel, chocolate and lightly roasted malt. Complex and rich, it finishes with a whisper of smokiness that calls to mind a fine single malt scotch. Old Chub weighs in at 8 % alcohol by volume.

Very dark and very malty. Picked up some brown sugar, carmel and if you try hard you can taste the hops.

This is very easily my dream beer. It’s a notably dark beer, thick and frothy head, and a heavy, immediately remarkable and unforgettable taste. The taste is noticeably sweet, and is very much a dessert beer-a definite winter beer.

Pretty tasty Scottish ale, not too heavy or sweet. Still amazed that beer like this comes out of a can.

Great price; solid, malty scotch ale taste. 8% ABV. i wish I could find this at more bars locally, or at the grocer.

I had no idea what to expect from this one, especially being in a can, but it was great. Wonderful dark look, nice creamy head. Great flavor - not very strong, but good.

    Characteristics: creamy dark malty
