Trippel
- Brewery: New Belgium Brewing Inc. · Fort Collins, CO
- Variety: Ale · Belgian / French Ales · Tripel
- Preferred vessel: Bottle
- Color: Light Amber (Wiessbier) (8 SRM)
- Added by Mr. Asher
From New Belgium Brewing: Our Trippel Belgian Style Ale (pronounced triple) opens with a bold blast of hops that slowly gives way to the fruity esters implied by our Belgian yeast strain. The Three Graces hand-painted on the label are Zeus’s daughters Aglaia (splendor), Euphrosyne (mirth) and Thalia (good cheer). In the Belgian tradition of brewing singles, doubles and triples, Trippel is the strongest with the longest fermentation. Remarkably smooth and complex, our bottle-conditioned Trippel is spiced with a trace of coriander.

This is New Belgium’s strongest beer, in terms of alcohol. You can tell.

Pours golden with a fizzy white head, almost like sparkling cider. Which is not at all how it tastes. It is a bit and has a light, sort of fizzy body, but it’s also pretty strong and has a bit of medicinal aftertaste. As far as tripels go it’s light tasting and feeling, not very remarkable but not bad.

I usually pick this open when I don’t feel like shelling out the big-bucks for a real tripel. New Beligum’s tripel doesn’t seem to hide the alcohol as well as others, which is surprising being that it is only 7% or so. To me, seems like New Beligum just tried to emulate tripels and didn’t do much experimenting, which is where this style shines.
Again, its “good enough” to pick up when short on cash and craving a tripel, but that is about it.

It’s like a mellower version of New Belgium’s “Mothership Wit” beer. I prefer this one, and at 7.8% it really packs a punch!

It has an almost citrus flavor to it, and is hoppy, but smooth. Way to easy to drink too much too fast.

Pretty tasty. You might mistake this New Belgian for an old Belgian.

This is one of my favorite selections from New Belgium. I agree with the other reviews, not the best tripel but for the price it is a solid choice.
Good flavor and color, a nice choice to settle in after a big meal.

Crisp and a little bit fruity. Nice color and depth for how light it is. Slight sour alcohol aftertaste.
