This was a great barleywine for a hophead. The hops hit the malt hard enough that this doesn’t taste as sweet as a traditional barleywine. Great take on the style for the 25th year of brewing this beer.

    Characteristics: earthy hoppy

Copper colored. Caramel and hoppy aroma. Sweet, caramel, and rich backbone. Spicy hoppiness. Finishes a bit too bitter and biting. Maybe a little young yet for this batch.

    Characteristics: biting hoppy rich

I had the 2009 edition. It pours with little tan head that quickly fades. There is some lacing going on.

Seems super hoppy, but I could be fooled by the mega malt action. Notes of maple and vanilla.

lingering burn/warmness that turns into a sweet finish

Characteristics: burn hoppy malty sweet vanilla

Great barleywine with hops balancing the sweetness. Will be great in a couple of years.

Hmmm, I’m guessing this just isn’t my cup of tea. I thought it was too bitter and had a slightly unpleasant taste I didn’t dig.

Asked the ‘Lady behind the sticks’ if she was sure I was drinking Bigfoot [confirmed]. Not at all like other Barleywines I’ve sampled. Tastes more like a Imperial IPA. Still; A good Brew.

2/10; Just had the 2010 release from a bottle. This is much more flavorful, creamy & aromatic. Based on that I’m raising my rate by 10.

This 2010 edition tastes better with each sip! Raising my rate higher & I’ts going on my fav’s list!!

    Characteristics: Bitterend creamy hops malt

Excellent Barleywine from Sierra Nevada. Pours dark clear copper with a malty aroma. Medium head and lacing with warming high alcohol kick - I still like Anchor’s Old Foghorn a little bit better.

    Characteristics: sweet warming
