    Comment:

Broadside is a highly-drinkable strong bitter with fruity tastes and a strong character. I prefer this over the standard Adnams ‘The Bitter’ because Broadside is more memorable and seems like more care has been invested in it’s production.

I put this in my ‘watch your step’ category. This is an extremely drinkable and strong ale, and I’ve had one or two less than clever experiences with it.

Having said that, it is a favourite, and easily Adnams’ most quality offering in wide circulation.

A definitely quaffable ale, whose deceptive strength will jump up and surprise you, if you’re not careful.

    A fine example of a (relatively) small-scale brewery making a quality-crafted ale.

It has to be drunk on the east coast, facing a bracing easterly breeze, preferably Southwold itself.

    Characteristics: dark smooth strong

A real favourite of mine. Full of strong flavours, and as pointed out already, a few too many can soon catch you out!

Living in the heart of Greene King country, means I love to frequently make the pilgrimage over to Southwold and drink something with some real flavour to it.

Abridged review: Appearance. Broadside has an off-white head with loose foamy bubbles and does not last very long. This beer has a beautiful red-brown ruby color and is crystal clear.

Smell. This beer has a sweet biscuit/amber aroma with a nice roasted malts. It has a slight fruity hop bouquet, which is very subtle and goes very well with the malty sweet aroma.

Taste. Broadside has a distinct roasted and sweet malty flavor with a hint of vanilla or caramel. The bitterness in this beer is noticeable, in a good way. The hop bitterness is refreshing and balances very nicely with the malt sweetness.

Mouthfeel. This is a medium bodied beer with low carbonation. It is flavorful and not watery.

Drinkability. On a hot day this beer was not as thirst quenching as some of the lighter-flavored bitters. However, the deliciousness of this beer was a refreshing change of pace.

    Characteristics: bitter drinkable malty
