Perfect for those cold dark Winter evenings. First sip leaves a warm nutty wonderness followed by a slight taste of licorice, delightful.

If I was in an Ale fight, this would be my preferred weapon of choice.

    Characteristics: full-bodied licorice nutty rich

Definitely one for the winter. Thick and delicious (just how I like my… nevermind). One for sipping gently in front of a roaring fire, savouring the deep, slightly sweet flavours.

    Characteristics: dark thick

I love Graham’s comments about this - that he even thinks of an Ale fight is brilliant! :D

Well, I’ll also give it a high rating (Graham: 97 seems a bit too high though!) because it is a great, strong-flavoured dark beer. Yes, the ‘nuttiness’ is good too, this is a lovely all-round beer.

Personally, I think White Shield is possibly even better though…(maybe my weapon of choice, haha!)

    Characteristics: dark nutty strong

Just an average better than most English style beer. Nothing I remember made this stand out. When in a pinch I’ll have it but ony after weighing all my options

    Characteristics: bland not-flavorful
