- Variety: Ale · English Ale · English Strong Ale
- Alcohol: ABV 4.50% / ABW 3.60%
- Preferred vessel: Pint glass

Use natural Burton spring water and traditional varieties of barley and hops (Maris Otter Barley, Fuggles and Goldings hops). Unique in this world, it is still brewed in the oak casks of the Burton Union to preserve its unique character, consistent quality and taste. Many brewers have abandoned this traditional method of brewing over the years due to its extra cost and labour intensive maintenance, which requires a skilled cooper to constantly service the wooden casks.

As this is a mass-produced ale, the quality can vary. Bottled examples seem to be much better than cans. Pedigree impressed me with how smooth and drinkable it is, coupled with its rich, hoppy taste. I’m not sure if I can skillfully taste the effects of Marston’s oak-casking method that they are so proud of(!), but it is one of my favourite all-round beers.

Tried this at the weekend as I tend to go for the smooth beers along the lines of Caffreys and John Smiths smooth. Had the one then had 3 more (responsibly of course) :) I found it doesn’t have that aftertaste kick that some smooth beers have, so yer all in all it’s a goodun.
