My “crappy bar standard”. A decent IPA, not terribly noteworthy but simple and drinkable. Could drink this all night and not complain. Pine for something better privately—now that’s a different thing.

I like this beer. And note, it’s simply a Pale Ale, not an IPA, so it will be less hoppy, but still on the bitter side. In general, a nice, simple pale ale.

A good standby, as it’s widely available and popular now. Interesting how ales went from uncommon to the most common among microbrews in the last 2 decades. I used to be a big ale drinker, but not so much anymore. Still, I’ll have a Bass Ale over a crappy lager any day.

Tried this beer again last night with my more mature taste buds. Wow, garbage.

Weak aroma Amber dark honey Not enough hops, too smooth, no bite. Diluted watery flavor.

It’s not a great ale, but it’s a good one. You can’t go too wrong calling for a Bass.

It’s also a good introduction to “good beer” for those who are scared to try anything darker or more exotic than a Killian’s Red.

I really like this beer. Admittedly, the flavor is not really intense, but it is always a good decision and I make this a regular part of my beer drinking. Moderately dark and a nice aftertaste.

This was the first beer I ever drank and has proven to be a sturdy little on-the-cheap workhorse ever since. Like when you hear the word “Beer” and a vague beer-shaped image floats up in your brain? It’s probably this guy.

Now this is a beer I drink a lot. It’s primary function (for me) is to force me to slow down my alcohol intake. This is because I choke a little bit every time I take a drink.

The prototype pale ale, nothing fancy (but it’s not trying to be either). Low on taste, watery, and almost completely unmemorable except for the memory of it being nothing special.

Other comments here include reference to how someone can just ‘keep drinking it’ (all day long?) and I agree that is probably very possible…and never get all that drunk in the process because it’s so weak!

I think Marston’s ‘Pedigree’ is a similar, but much better effort - choose that instead :)

If I brought some ‘Bass’ along to a party, only the drunks would go anywhere near it.

I have a certain affection for Bass, but it probably doesn’t have a hell-of-a-lot to do with the taste. Very unremarkable flavour. A bit more bitter than other widely available alternatives, which is nice.
