In 1884, a German brewer left his home to establish the Moctezuma brewery in Veracruz, Mexico. In 1897, he blended his brewing heritage with the spirit of Mexican tradition to create Dos Equis. Dos Equis Amber made its debut in 1973 and in the US, the brand continues to thrive with two successful flavors: Dos Equis Special Lager and Dos Equis Amber. Originally called “Siglo XX” (“20th century”), the brand was named to commemorate the arrival of the new century; since the Spanish language uses Roman numerals for centuries, the bottles were marked “XX”, two Xs, or “Dos Equis”.

This is the beer of the gods. It tastes like summertime; it’s light, crisp and refreshing and makes me feel like I’m on holidays when I drink them.
Unfortunately it’s also $22 for a six-pack in Australia (if you can even find it).

This is the Dos Equis Lager we’re talking here, right? The one in the green bottle? Terrible stuff. A blight on lagers, and unworthy of the Dos Equis name.
Dos Equis Amber, on the other hand, is one of my favorites.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had one, but they were drinkable and better than competing American brands at the time.

Not a huge fan of lagers in general and this one is average at best. If you’re getting a Dos Equis, get the amber, it’s much better.

Perhaps from drinking too much of this stuff, for something called “Special” it’s anything but. Go for something with more character unless darker, stouter beers scare you away.

This beer is considered girlie? Really? I suppose because it comes with a lime it could be taken that way, but I didn’t think that at all otherwise. It’s really tasty! … much better than I expected actually.

Has that unfortunate sour taste that is found in so many Mexican beers like Tecate and Carta Blanca. Give me a Corona or a Pacifico anytime.
