Gulden Draak snuck up on me. I knew it was a good beer before I tried it; then I had some, and agreed with the verdict, but didn’t initially find much that made it stand out against other Belgian ales.
Then I had more. And every time I tried it I found more to appreciate: the rich brown colour; the deep and complex flavours of caramel, fruit, and spices; the smooth non-alcoholic taste for a beer that packs as much of a punch as this one does.
Count me as a fan.

One of my favorite beers of all time. This little powerpunch kicked me on my tail more than a few times. It’s smooth, syrupy goodness knows no equal in my book.
Best served and enjoyed in a goblet just above freezing.

Pours really dark. A deep brown with a light fizzy 1/2 inch head. This is good. Really good. A bit less sweet than I’d expected, but very rich and thick. It’s fruity, spicy and strong, as you would expect, but it’s so nicely balanced that it actually goes down way easy. I’d say this beer is dangerous and very, very good.

This beer is really nice because it combines the fruit like qualities of the Belgian styles with some serious malt character. There’s some nice hops in there to balance it out.
Very unique and it hides the alcohol nicely.
