Tripel Karmeliet is still brewed to an authentic beer recipe from 1679 originatin in the former Carmelite monstarey in Dendermonde. Written over 300 years ago, this recipe describes the use of three kinds of grain: wheat, oats and barley.
The name Tripel Karmeliet thus refers to both its origin and its in-bottle refermentation. From many trial brews of multi-grain tripels carried out at our brewery in the 90s, it appears that the particular historic combination of the 3 kinds of grain still remains the ideal blend.

A fantastic Belgian tripel that drinks incredibly well. Sweet and fruity flavours prevail, with notes of berries, caramel, spiciness and honey that are almost reminiscent of bubble gum in the best of ways. Perfect and balanced flavours that complement the warming alcohol in the best of ways.

This has to be one of my all time favorite beers! It is a unique tripel and has a sharper light fruit taste than many of the creamier tripels out there (like St. Bernardus’ tripel for instance).
I’ve had this on tap, and in two separate bottles and despite what my brewery experience tells me, each is slightly different.

In my experience you can’t get much better in a tripel than this one. Had it at first at a beer tasting in Cincinnati Ohio. It was fantastic and I have had many subsequently. Not overtly fruity but full of flavor. Feels strong going down but doesn’t have a extremely high ABV. A great, very old recipe.

Pours pale golden with an abundance of carbonation. Fruity aroma with sweet, malty taste. Spicy, clean, crisp finish. I’m not generally a fan of European beers, but the this is a good one.
- Characteristics: complex malty sweet

This is my idea of the perfect trippel.
Very fruity and floral. The alcohol is well hidden and the balance is amazing.
It leaves you with a perfect palate. The mouthfeel is spot on for the style.

a very safe triple ale to go with if you want spices and just enough hops, and it smells lovely.
