About Hefeweizen
A southern German style of wheat beer. “Hefe” is the German word for yeast. The prefix is added to indicate that the beer is unfiltered and might have sediment. Hefeweizen is particularly noted for its low hop bitterness and relatively high carbonation, considered important to balance the beer’s relatively malty sweetness. Other more typical but less assertive ale flavor notes include “banana”, “cloves”, “bubble gum”, and sometimes “vanilla”. Hefeweizen is often served with lemon.
